Can You Explain What You Believe?

sharingwitnessingI occasionally watch an atheist talk show that is aired on the internet (and on a local TV station). I do it not because I am an atheist, but because I believe that if we are to engage the world, then we need to leave the bubble of the church and understand what they are saying, how they view Christians.

Often they can offer advice to believers and make us think. So often, sharing the Gospel is left to pastors, Sunday Schools teachers, or leadership in the church. Many classes are given on how to share the Gospel and one must wonder why? If we believe what Jesus did for us, then why can’t we share our story, and what we believe with others?

Please take a few minutes and watch this video…

Do you find yourself sending links to people to share how you feel? Quoting a celebrity about faith on Facebook? Do you rely solely on Scripture without an ability to explain what it means?

If we cannot explain, or share, what we believe, then do we really believe, or have we taken on someone else’s faith?

Good point, Pastor Bill. Part of why the church is so ineffective is that very few Christians feel prepared to explain why they’re followers of Jesus to people who are not.

But in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect
